Livari beach is one of the most photographed beaches in Vourvourou and is really something special in Halkidiki. With the sun rising over the towering Mt. Athos it reflects on the smooth water surface and makes for spectacular early morning photos. Livari is actually a thin sandbar consisting of fine sand that separates the bay from the sea to create a breathtaking lagoon.
Driving by, you will see parasols as if standing out of the water across the lagoon with sunbathers lounging their day away hedged in by water on both sides. Even though the sandbar is made of sand and the seafloor is sandy, there are some slippery rocks and sea urchins to be aware of. There is no organization on this beach so bring your own. For swimming it is better to swim on the sea side towards Athos as the water there is cleaner.
What’s great about Livari
Spectacular setting, sunrises and photo ops.And what’s not…
There is no organization, everything needs to be brought with you. The smooth rocks underwater can be slippery so bring swimming shoes and there are sea urchins.Access to Livari is off the main road just north of Vourvourou. Either you can park on the Vourvourou beach north of town where there are boat rentals and walk over, or there is easier access from the north side where there is a campsite.
