Vourvourou is a wonderful place to visit in Sithonia. When visiting for the day I decided to make a stop at one of my favorite seaside restaurants in Halkidiki – Paris Restaurant.
As I look around, the majority of people coming here seem to be Greeks and it’s obvious that they are regular customers as they are greeted by Paris and his staff with a kiss on the cheek. Their specialty is fresh seafood. You see the waiters taking hungry customers to see the vast selection of fresh fish resting on a bed of ice. Many are ordering fresh fish which is a good sign.
Since I just stopped in for a snack, I pass on the fish. Souvlaki is what I want. My wife goes for her usual favorite, fried calamari. We decide to try with our friends a Paris Restaurant special – the appetizer platter. Great for 4 persons, this gives you a taste of different Greek specialties such as spicy feta filled peppers, Greek dolma (a rice/ meat filling wrapped in grape leaves), zucchini balls with fresh dill and fried cheese. Perfect washed down with a cool glass of white wine!
The souvlaki arrives. Pork cubes grilled to juicy perfection. Often these are hard not to leave them too long on the grill so they don’t get dried out. The calamari is dipped in a spiced batter and deep fried so they come out crispy but still tender in the center. Only the Greeks know how to prepare calamari so it isn’t chewy like rubber.
The atmosphere of Paris Restaurant is a special bonus. Choose a seaside table and feel the cool breeze from the water as you watch the many boats gently bobbing in the crystal clear turquoise water. In the evening you can even get an amazing sunset over the Sithonia peninsula.
Alas, Desert arrives. Oh YES! Ice cream along with Greek sweets!
